One-way Flow Networks: the Role of Heterogeneity
نویسندگان
چکیده
I study a one-way flow connections model in which players are heterogeneous with respect to values and the costs of establishing a link. I first show that values and costs asymmetries are crucial in determining the level of connectedness of a network. Interestingly, unconnected equilibria are asymmetric and central players may emerge. Second, I show that non-singleton components have a wheel architecture as far as the costs of linking are not partner specific. Otherwise also the flower architecture constitutes an equilibrium. I interpret these results as saying that symmetric connections across players are a peculiar feature of homogenous environments; by contrast, in heterogeneous settings players hold asymmetric connections which are accompanied by the emergence of central players. ∗I thank Sanjeev Goyal, Alessandro Lanteri, Caterina Marchionni, J.L. Moraga-Gonzalez, Alex Konovalov and Rob Van der Noll for useful comments. Resources Flows Asymmetries in Strict Nash Networks with Partner Heterogeneity Resources Flows Asymmetries in Strict Nash Networks with Partner Heterogeneity
This paper introduces a partner heterogeneity assumption in the one-way flow model of Bala and Goyal (2000, [1]). Our goal consists in the characterization of strict Nash networks with regard to the set of resources obtained by players. We use the notion of condensation network which allows us to divide the population in sets of players who obtain the same resources and we order these sets acco...

متن کاملA Note on Existence of Nash Networks in One-way Flow Models”
The importance of networks is pervasive and now well documented. Among the growing litterature on the formation of networks, a few papers have explored the impact of heterogeneity, although this is a distinctive feature. Galeotti (2006, [3]) is one exception. The author introduces agents heterogeneity in one way flow models of network formation and characterize the architectures of Nash network...
متن کاملInvestigating the Effect of Heterogeneity on Buckley-Leverett Flow Model
The performance of water flooding can be investigated by using either detail numerical modeling or simulation, or simply through the analytical Buckley-Leverett (BL) model. The Buckley-Leverett analytical technique can be applied to one-dimensional homogeneous systems. In this paper, the impact of heterogeneity on water flooding performance and fractional flow curve is investigated. First, a ba...
متن کاملOn the Interaction between Player Heterogeneity and Partner Heterogeneity in Two-way Flow Strict Nash Networks
This paper brings together analyses of two-way flow Strict Nash networks under exclusive player heterogeneity assumption and exclusive partner heterogeneity assumption. This is achieved through examining how the interactions between these two assumptions influence important properties of Strict Nash networks. Built upon the findings of Billand et al (2011) and Galleotti et al (2006), which assu...
متن کاملHeterogeneity in Nash Networks*
Heterogeneity in Nash networks with two-way flow can arise due to differences in the following four variables: (i) the value of information held by agents, (ii) the rate at which information decays or loses its value as it traverses the network, (iii) the probability with which a link transmits information, and (iv) the cost of forming a link. In this paper we show that heterogeneity plays an i...
